From The School
Muhlenberg has a student population of nearly 2,000 from across the country and the world. On Muhlenberg's residential campus, students develop new and enduring friendships. A dedicated team of residential professional and student staff coach students as they build resilience and connections away from home and find a sense of belonging.
Muhlenberg offers a diverse, dynamic community: 22 percent of the Muhlenberg Class of 2028 are first-generation students, and about 33 percent of the class identify as students of color.
Muhlenberg's residential campus offers everything you'd expect from a top-tier college: 120+ student clubs and organizations (including thriving Greek organizations and affinity groups), 23 NCAA Division III varsity teams, countless student leadership positions and a vibrant performing arts scene. From advocacy to performance, from academic groups to special interest clubs, Muhlenberg offers a community for each student — and the support to create new groups to explore untapped passions.
What students say:
Students at Muhlenberg College are described as extremely "hardworking" and "friendly." A French and education double-major explains, "Most people are involved with many different aspects of campus life, and these aspects tend not to be 'cliquey' because of the crossover. For example, there are many football players who are members of a cappella groups or who take dance." Importantly, we're also told that "being nice is kind of important" at Muhlenberg. An English major somewhat sarcastically qualifies, "If someone doesn't hold the door open for the person behind them, they're basically made to wear a scarlet letter and deemed a pariah." The overall demographics have been changing over the last two years, but some students still describe a number of their peers as "white, uppermiddle class, [and] from New Jersey." That said, students agree that there's no one fixed type; in fact: "There is a place for everyone on campus. We have a huge theater program, yet almost 30 percent of our school participates in athletics, so you can see there are all extremes and everything in between."

The College offers traditional undergraduate degrees and graduate programs as well as academic partnership programs in fields like medicine, dentistry, business and public health.
Location
Located in the vibrant Lehigh Valley, approximately 90 miles west of New York City and 55 miles north of Philadelphia, Allentown is Pennsylvania's third-largest and fastest-growing city with one of the best park systems in the United States. Muhlenberg's residential campus is located in Allentown's idyllic West End, an easily walkable area featuring public parks, a bustling farmer's market, restaurants and shops, and a nearby arts district.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
The College's labs, performance areas and collaborative spaces are designed for and structured around interdisciplinary learning. Muhlenberg offers the tools required to conduct work at the highest level.
For students focused on the study of natural spaces, the College's research preserve and arboretum provide exceptional spaces for exploration and investigation. Student performers enjoy state-of-the-art studios, shops, classrooms and performance spaces.
Muhlenberg's newest academic building, the Fahy Commons for Public Engagement and Innovation, opened in early 2023 and provides 20,000 square feet of programming, art studio and academic space. It is among the most ambitious sustainable building projects of its kind: In addition to being LEED Platinum certified, Fahy Commons is the first project in the world to achieve Core Living Building Certification.
Muhlenberg students enjoy some of the best campus dining in the nation (and #1 in Pennsylvania). A recent addition is a Simple Servings allergen-friendly dining station, which avoids gluten and eight of the nine most common allergens that collectively represent approximately 90 percent of all food allergies.
Off-Campus Opportunities
Allentown is a magnet for entrepreneurs and new businesses ranging from tech and design to logistics, finance, medicine and biotechnology. The Lehigh Valley is ranked a top region for economic development, and many local businesses offer internships and full-time employment opportunities to Muhlenberg students and alumni.
The Lehigh Valley offers an extensive park system; every year several of these parks host nationally known cultural festivals. The area also has museums, theaters and numerous colleges and universities. Through the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges, Muhlenberg students can take courses at these other schools, use their libraries and attend their events.
Allentown's city center is home to a professional hockey stadium and entertainment center, a downtown market and many restaurants and shops for day and evening entertainment. A short drive or public transit ride away offers additional options, including minor league baseball, Dorney Park and the vibrant cities of Bethlehem and Easton.
What students say:
It's quite easy to lead a full and fulfilling life at Muhlenberg. To begin with, the "school offers tons of free activities over the weekends, from movie showings to Stuff-A-Plush." Undergrads here also love the college's strong performing arts scene. Indeed, "a cappella groups are very popular at Muhlenberg." Additionally, given "the large theater department," it's virtually guaranteed that "there's always a show in production." Sports are equally popular: "football and basketball games have good attendance records." While there's a modest amount of drinking, the college doesn't have a crazy party scene. As a biology major shares, "There's a few bars and clubs in the area that offer college nights on Thursdays, which is fun. From time to time, the school hosts theme parties "like flapperera zombies or a speakeasy (with a live jazz band!)" as well. Lastly, undergrads enjoy Allentown's public parks which provide "great areas to hike, explore, bird-watch, read or take a jog." And they periodically capitalize on Muhlenberg's relatively close proximity to both Philadelphia and New York.

From the School
Our goal in the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid is to help as many students as possible afford a Muhlenberg education. We do this through a combination of merit-based scholarships and need-based loans, grants and scholarships. Every family's financial situation is different, so we carefully review the information submitted to the College. We customize students' financial aid offers based on their circumstances.
Applying for financial aid:
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov. Muhlenberg's federal school code is 003304. Early Decision I and Early Action applicants should complete the FAFSA as soon as it becomes available. Early Decision II and Regular Decision applicants should complete the FAFSA by February 1. High school students applying for first-year entry in Fall 2025 are also encouraged to submit the CSS Profile.
Applications for admission are automatically reviewed for merit scholarship consideration. No additional materials are required to be considered for merit scholarships. Students interested in pursuing the visual and performing arts may choose to submit materials for consideration for a talent scholarship in art, film studies, dance, music or theatre.
Students considering applying Early Decision can request an Early Scholarship & Aid Review by reaching out to
finaid@muhlenberg.edu.
