A minimum of six experiential law credits are required after the first year, which is relatively easy to do in Chicago, where 鈥渢here is excellent access to the courts (state/federal/appellate/etc.) and associated opportunities.鈥� Moreover, because the city's legal community is 鈥渢ight knit,鈥� it helps to be connected, and students note that experiences 鈥渁re abundant via Loyola alumni.鈥� And the school 鈥渄oes a good job of encouraging Loyola students as early as the first year to take advantage of Loyola's network.鈥� For instance, judicial externships are readily available, and 鈥渁nyone who cares about the law and works hard has the opportunity to extern for a judge.鈥� On top of that, the school 鈥渙ffers many moot and mock trial teams as a means of letting their students be a part of a community.鈥�

鈥溾�楨ngaging' does not begin to describe the classroom experience鈥� at Loyola, where professors 鈥済o out of their way to make sure you not only understand the relevant material鈥� and also 鈥渢ruly care about you as a person.鈥� They have 鈥渉elped to cultivate a collaborative community at Loyola that stands apart,鈥� and 鈥渢he professionalism of the outstanding faculty is empowering and encouraging.鈥� Students regularly praise the Legal Writing and Research courses, which 鈥渁re taught in a very direct and approachable way.鈥� According to one, 鈥渢he legal writing course [sets] the stage for the rest of the substantive courses.鈥� This groundwork is also supported by 鈥渞esearch facilities [that] are excellent,鈥� including the library, which always has aides at the ready. There is also a strong focus 鈥渙n teaching trial skills that equip students in the program to handle the courtroom from day one of practice.鈥� The administration at Loyola is 鈥渆mpathetic and realistic when advising students,鈥� so it's 鈥渃onsistently [asking for] student input in the administrative processes such as hiring, technology, resources, and classes.

The 鈥渁tmosphere at Loyola is one of genuine care amongst the students,鈥� who are 鈥済ood people trying to do good things in the world.鈥� While 鈥渢he school leans liberal,鈥� people 鈥渙f every sort of ethnicity, orientation, or political persuasion are afforded opportunities to be heard and respected.鈥� This is 鈥渁 social school, with plenty of opportunities to make friends to study or socialize with,鈥� and there is 鈥渁 weekly 鈥楤ar Review' which frequents local taverns on Thursday nights.鈥� Everyone 鈥渋s friendly and ignores all of the cutthroat attitude that law schools are notorious for.鈥�
